Prompt #4
In
the Great Gatsby Daisy Buchanan states that she wishes her daughter to
be a "beautiful fool." This is because Daisy believes that
"ignorance is bliss", but some will easily impugn with the counter
phrase "knowledge is power." As a child growing up ignorance was a
blessing. And having come to age that I am, I have begun to realize that
knowledge is constantly poisoning us. Poisoning us with anguish and contempt
thoughts.
In
the year 2001 an event occurred on 9/11. I remember being in class and my
teacher receiving a phone call, he was devastated. A some few hours later, my parents came and
picked me up without explaining to me what was going on. When we got home, I
recall watching the news with my parents as they sat on the couch in tears
while they were watching the video footage of
a commercial airliner plane, crashing into the Twin Towers .
The next day I went and played with my friends at school, and went through out
the day as if nothing had happened. I was a child, an ignorant fool.
Everyday
people wish they could go back to being a child, because our best days were
when we were children, when we were ignorant. Every second, every minute, every
hour, and everyday something tragic happens. From people starving to wars
starting, causing us to become overwhelmed with anguish, hate, or
disillusionment. These emotions is what causes us to grow up, to acquire
"knowledge". It isn't until people obtain knowledge though that they
begin to realize, that the happiest times one has is when nothing matters. When
we were children playing on the playground.
